Student Ambassador

Since 1996, BLSCE has given a Littleton-area high school student the opportunity to represent our community in Bega, Australia as part of each visiting delegation.
Students compete for an all-expenses-paid trip by preparing and presenting “Littleton, My Hometown” to a selection committee. The winning student presents to the Littleton City Council and local civic organizations, then shares their presentation with civic groups in Bega.
But this experience is about much more than giving a presentation or traveling to Australia. Our Student Ambassadors have discovered a new culture, gained a broader perspective of the world, developed confidence, and formed friendships that can last a lifetime. Their families may also have the opportunity to host Bega's Student Ambassador, deepening the connection between our two communities.

Meet our 2026 Ambassador

Alexandra (Heritage Class of ‘26)
Alexandra is a senior at Heritage High School where she is an honors student. She is involved in Heritage's theatre program as both Senior Stage Manager and troupe Historian, chairs her Student Government's Digital Advertising team, and serves as a student representative to Heritage's Accountability and Principal Advisory committees.
In her free time, Alexandra enjoys watching movies, volunteering throughout the community, working at Vibe Foods, and spending time outside on her longboard. Alexandra's interest in communication, curiosity, and sense of adventure have led her to major in International Business at San Diego State University, and she cannot wait to get to know the people and culture of Bega as the delegation's Student Ambassador!
Post-trip Update (March 2026)
We began our trip in Tasmania, where I tried Vegemite for the first time (and loved it!) and saw my first kangaroo. Tasmania’s incredible variety of landscapes left a lasting impression—from Jurassic Park-like rainforests, to mountains reminiscent of the Rockies, to dramatic coastal cliffs that stopped me in my tracks. What struck me most was how vast and untouched Australia felt. Rather than nature being surrounded by human development, it felt as though people had simply borrowed small pockets of space from an immense landscape.
We then traveled to Bega, where we were warmly welcomed almost as soon as we stepped off the plane. I stayed with two wonderful host families, the Smiths and the Kruclers, who made me feel at home. My visit was filled with incredible sightseeing, activities, conversations, and Aussie hospitality. I gained a deeper appreciation for Australian culture and discovered a pace of life centered on spending time with others and enjoying the outdoors—a perspective I hope to carry with me. Ourjourney ended in Sydney, a city that had always seemed so exotic to me. It was every bit as beautiful and exciting as I imagined, and I loved it! I am incredibly grateful for this experience. Australia now feels both foreign and familiar, and I hope to return someday—perhaps even to live there.
As a student ambassador, I was honored to share my experience with students at Bega High School and present about Littleton and the significance of our Sister City exchange at the Civic Dinner. I hope my story encourages other students to consider applying for this opportunity.
